Monica is a graduate student in the Allen Lab and studies the diversity of Pseudo-nitzschia species and their ability to produce toxic and non-toxic metabolites. Her work combines synthetic chemistry, metabolomics and field observations. Before joining the lab, she completed a BS in Biochemistry at the University of Southern California with research guided by David Hutchins.
Research Interests:
  • Metabolomics
  • Chemical synthesis
  • Pseudo-nitzschia diatoms
  • Phytoplankton environmental stressors
